The name Le Pompadour originates in France.
Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, commonly known as Madame de Pompadour, was a member of the French court and was the official chief mistress of Louis XV from 1745 to 1751.
She was noted for her extravagant high powdered wigs.
Today however the term Pompadour is more commonly linked with the Elvis Presley style quiff, both Elvis and James Dean had a great influence on the high quiff-Pompadour, Greased-up style or slicked back style for men.
